DEF LEPPARD Guitarist's MAN RAZE To Release DRM-Free Music Via Official Web Site
August 20, 2007MAN RAZE, a newly formed rock outfit featuring Phil Collen of DEF LEPPARD, Simon Laffy from GIRL and Paul Cook of THE SEX PISTOLS, has announced the release of its full-length album, "Surreal", with the album's first single, "Turn It Up", to be released DRM-free music via their own artist-run web site.
Mixing the raw energy of the PISTOLS mixed with the immaculate pop rock of DEF LEPPARD, MAN RAZE is a unique clash of '70s simplicity with '80s excess, punk clubs with stadium rock. With the changing climate music industry and new roads available for artists to release material, MAN RAZE have decided to blaze ground and use the internet to debut and release their music to further help fans connect with the band and their sounds. This month their first single, "Turn It Up", will be released via their own site at www.manraze.com. The group's debut full-length album, "Surreal", is due out this fall 2007 with a tour to follow in October.
"The fun part about MAN RAZE is that musically we can go off in any direction from rock to alternative the next," said Phil Collen. "The Internet has given musicians a lot of artistic freedom and is a cool way of giving our fans direct access to our music. We are looking forward to playing live this fall."
Before joining DEF LEPPARD, London born Phil Collen played in GIRL, who were one of the great unsung U.K. rock acts of the early 80’s (singer Phil Lewis would later front L.A. GUNS — who were at the vanguard of the L.A. sleaze rock scene that eventually produced GUNS N' ROSES). While Phil went on to join DEF LEPPARD he maintained a strong friendship with Simon Laffy, GIRL's bassist. Reconnecting in 2004, and joined by SEX PISTOLS drummer Paul Cook, MAN RAZE was born. Eschewing their illustrious past, the band have spent the past two year getting back to basics, writing and recording — they also played a sold out show at London's Spitz Club and released a limited edition EP "Skin Crawl" in October 2005 on their own label, Surrealist Records, in the U.K.
In addition, to the release of the single, the group will bundling a variety of exclusive digital content for sale on the site and giving free music away with merchandise purchases. They are also launching a series of not to be missed contests for fans. The contest series kicks off this month with the "Rock Star For A Day" giveaway of which one winner will be flown to the September 22 DEF LEPPARD show in Las Vegas, NV to hang with Phil Collen for the day.
